Colleague Profile – Sumita Leonard
I am a passionate teacher with expertise in special needs/SEN. My enthusiasm for teaching stems from my desire to enable all students to reach their full potential. I have a passion to teach students with learning difficulties and provide differentiation and individual support to best meet their needs. I tutor school-aged students and support them with their regular classes. I also provide mini-lessons to enable further learning in a certain content-area or life-skill.
My method is a holistic approach to learning—focusing on the whole child. I encourage students to foster independence and improve their confidence. I believe learning is fun and students need to find this passion of learning for themselves. Students need to be taught explicit steps and strategies to best support their thinking and learning, and this ultimately supports retention. Executive functioning skills are important for students to learn to become more independent at school.
I am originally from Kolkata, India. I was adopted as a baby by an American-Dutch couple. I am very grateful for my family. I have lived in 4 countries, and I am presently in The Hague, The Netherlands.
